Job Summary:

 

The Farm Nutrients Truck Driver/Equipment Operator handles hauling manure, liquid, granular products along with managing the litter in the manure barns including placement, turning, drying, blending, and taking samples to monitor quality and process effectiveness. Operates loaders, spreaders, semi-truck and trailers, and other equipment to unload, manage inventory, blend fertilizer, load trucks and spread manure when fields are available to spread.  Ensures product quality, equipment maintenance and overall equipment efficiency.  Hours will include some weekends.    

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Load raw chicken manure and granular products
  • Occasional climbing of ladders during loading and unloading
  • Schedule and perform routine maintenance checks – oil, fluids, etc.
  • Complete documentation of loads hauled including bill of laden, scale tickets and proper sampling (when necessary)
  • Over the road hauling of manure
  • Drive truck for on-farm pick up and working with various on-farm loading equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and maintenance associated with equipment used
  • Obtains and maintains a Commercial Manure License annually
  • Operates spreading equipment in a way that ensures fields are spread in a quality and efficient manner
  • Tracks loads, calculates total tons, checks and mark fields, and guides trucks to proper locations
  • Coordinates spreading schedule with Scalehouse and customer to optimize the spreader path
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance checks
  • Transports supplies and equipment from location to location
  • Operates pay-loader in field to load spreader
  • Assists as needed during spring and fall fertilizer seasons with equipment moving and maintenance
  • Operates a front-end loader to move product and/or load trucks
  • Handles the blending of materials used for composting of spent hens and mortality
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Required:

  • Valid driver's license including a Class A CDL
  • Mechanical and heavy equipment knowledge
  • Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely
  • Independent Self Starter/Team Player
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to read, understand and effectively communicate information through writing and speaking so others will understand
  • Hand/Eye/Foot Coordination
  • Ability to read maps
  • Mathematical Skills: General arithmetic
  • Computer Skills: Touch screen, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet

Equipment:

  • Hard hat/helmet, hearing protection, safety glasses, and harness for protection
  • Trucks, Tractors, Front-End Loader, Payloader, Scat machine, and semi-truck and trailers, Ground-Keeping equipment
  • Hand and power tools
  • Large push broom, kitchen pull broom, squeegee, floor mop, high pressure wand and air hoses
