Job Summary: 

The Agronomy Sales Associate position manages sales and marketing of Chicken Litter. The individual in this position will emphasize and use Farm Nutrients offerings to capture and manage the whole acre for the grower. This position must understand and convey the market value of organic fertilizers versus commercial fertilizers.   

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Fertilizer Sales 

  • Sales of manure as organic fertilizer working to find long term customers, understanding their needs and marketing a product that meets their need and maximizes the value to the company 

  • Develops sales for externally source manure as an organic fertilizer 

  • Ensures all required sales documents are completed correctly 

  • Understands the market value of organic fertilizers versus commercial and gain insight into competition 

  • Customer Support 

  • Travel within sales territory to meet prospects and customers 

  • Builds and maintains a network of sources from which to identify new sales leads 

  • Conduct calls and face-to-face meetings with potential customers daily 

  • Build and maintain relationships with new and repeat customers 

  • “Get the sale” using various customer sales methods (door-to-door, cold-calling, creating radio ads, etc.) 

  • Communicates with customer and document customer’s needs, field requirements and date field can be hauled and spread so logistics can be managed accordingly 

  • Develops and maintains relationships with customers and gain insight into their needs as a guideline to offer new or additional products or services 

  • Flags fields as needed to ensure accurate delivery and field identification 

  • Place field signs to promote Farm Nutrients where litter has been applied 

  • Works with producers to resolve any issues including collection issues 

  • Agronomy Services 

  • Develops the agronomy services offered by Farm Nutrients including soil sampling, variable rate application. 

  • Develops an understanding of services that would add value to producer and their market value 

  • Helps develop a sales program for their customer base inclusive of advertising, promotions, and sales calls 

  • Operates equipment as needed to ensure timely delivery, and spreading of manure (equipment may include loaders, trucks, spreaders, and scale house equipment) 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Required: 

  • Associate degree in Agronomy or 2+ years of experience in agronomy focusing on soil tilth and types, NP&K requirements by crop and soil type, grid sampling, manure or other organic fertilizer 

  • 2+ years of experience in Agronomy Sales  

  • Knowledge and understanding of key economic drivers of a successful agronomy business 

  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills 

  • A friendly and energetic personality with customer service focus 

  • Ability to perform under pressure and address complaints in a timely manner 

  • Excellent organizational skills, thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline oriented 

  • Ability to collect, analyze, compile, interpret and distribute various reports 

  • Basic Math skills 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software 

  • Proficiency in English 

Equipment: 

  • Office equipment: fax, copier, computers, printers, telephones, hand-held radios, calculators 

  • Loaders, trucks, spreaders, scale house equipment 

  • Hand tools

  • Takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the SQF system. 

  • Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring. 

  • Performs other tasks as assigned
